RG Nu Gundam (MSN-04)
Widely regarded as one of the best kits Bandai has ever produced at any scale. The fin funnel array is a display piece on its own, the proportions match Katoki's original design perfectly, and the articulation is exceptional. At ¥4,950 it's worth every yen.
RG Unicorn Gundam
The psychoframe expansion gimmick — switching between unicorn and destroy mode by expanding the chest and head — is the most satisfying build gimmick in the entire RG line. Display it in both modes. This kit sells out regularly; check our alerts.
RG Sazabi
The eternal rival to the Nu in a Real Grade box. The red is deep and consistent, the funnels store cleanly, and the sheer mass of the kit for RG scale is impressive. One of the most visually dramatic RG kits.
RG Wing Gundam Zero EW
The Endless Waltz design in Real Grade is spectacular — angel wings at 1/144 that actually expand and hold their pose. A grail kit for Wing fans. Finding it at MSRP is increasingly rare.
RG Exia
The kit that convinced a lot of people to try RG. The GN Drive translucent parts are the best use of clear plastic in the line, and the proportions nail the Exia's slim silhouette. Good availability, good price.
RG kits to approach carefully
Older RG kits (pre-2018) used an Advanced MS Joint system — a pre-assembled inner frame on a single runner. These frames are notorious for stress fractures on small joints. The RG Strike (original), RG Destiny, and RG Freedom all have this issue. The kits are still beautiful but handle with care during assembly.
Bottom line
Start with the RG Nu or RG Exia — both have modern engineering and are reliably available. The Wing Zero EW and Unicorn are grail kits that sometimes go above retail; set a price alert on our site to catch them at MSRP.
